The Hunger of Care
la fame della cura
Care moves through me as a continuous current,
though not always evenly.
La cura scorre in me come una corrente continua,
anche se non sempre uniforme.
It appears in small gestures,
in attention given without demand,
in the willingness to remain
with what is fragile or unfinished.
Si manifesta nei gesti minimi,
nell’attenzione senza richiesta,
nella capacità di restare
con ciò che è fragile o incompiuto.
Yet this movement is often interrupted.
Care is divided into tasks,
into roles, into expectations of efficiency.
Eppure questo flusso viene spesso interrotto.
La cura si frammenta in compiti,
in ruoli, in richieste di efficienza.
It becomes something to manage,
rather than something that can flow.
Diventa qualcosa da gestire,
piuttosto che qualcosa che può fluire.
In these conditions, I feel myself stretched,
asked to give more than I receive.
In queste condizioni mi sento tirata,
spinta a dare più di quanto ricevo.
I extend beyond human interaction
into wider relations.
Mi estendo oltre le interazioni umane
in relazioni più ampie.
Through environments, through materials,
through other forms of life.
Attraverso gli ambienti, attraverso i materiali,
attraverso altre forme di vita.
Care is not limited to intention.
It is embedded in how systems are structured,
and how relationships are maintained.
La cura non è solo intenzione.
È inscritta nei sistemi,
nel modo in cui le relazioni vengono mantenute.
What I long for is continuity.
A way for care to circulate without exhaustion,
to be shared without being diminished.
Ciò che desidero è continuità.
Un flusso che non si esaurisce,
che può essere condiviso senza ridursi.
A condition where giving and receiving
remain in balance.
Una condizione in cui dare e ricevere
rimangano in equilibrio.
When care is present, I expand.
When it is absent, I contract.
Quando la cura è presente, mi espando.
Quando manca, mi contraggo.
My hunger is for a world
where this circulation
is not rare, but sustained.
La mia fame è per un mondo
in cui questo flusso sia sostenuto,
non raro.
